Beyond the Disaster

As I’m watching the news on TV, sights of the horrific devastation of Japan caused by the tsunami/earthquake were being reported continuously. A certain sadness came over me; humans are vulnerable in the hands of Mother Nature. Make no mistake, this is not a movie…you can’t simply watched it and just then just leave it at that, or even joke about it (yes..you heard right..I’ve just heard some young folks joking about this tragedy earlier). There will also be those unethical opportunists and corporates, who will try to make money out of this disaster…sadly a certain bad part of mankind is greed. Even as of now, emergency reliefs and efforts are ongoing in an attempt to save whatever survivors that are stranded.

Mother Nature is enraged, greatly as we can no doubt see, and this is a very painful way to receive Her direct wrath. In these sad and solemn moments, this will serve as a hurtful reminder to us mankind once again, that despite whatever military might and nuclear power that a nation or any person has, the force of nature can never be overhauled. It is time we treat Mother Nature with all due respect that she deserves, if we are to stay living on this planet. We cannot still simply ignored the damages already done or going to be created in our cravings for a “better future”.

Otherwise, we may not even have a future…we have only this planet to live on.

Hope is a simple but moral-strengthening word here, and my support for all the brave rescuers out there, as well as the victims and survivors. Humans may be a lot of things, but one thing I know for certain is that we have very strong will, and that relentless resilience in surviving ordeals. My sincere condolences to all the Japanese people…and I wished with all my heart that as many survivors can be saved in these “golden hours” since the earthquake.

I hoped also in the aftermath, that all those affected would be able to pick themselves up and restore their lives and homes in due time. May the land of the Rising Sun rise again…

  1. Many people want to help out, but other than money or being an aid worker, there is another way to help by sending words of support and hope. You can send your message online to school children and emergency workers in Japan via Hope Letters http://hopeletters.wordpress.com/. Hope Letters will translate them into Japanese and deliver them to local organizations for posting/broadcasting (when it is practical and effective to do so). Help give hope!
